Legally Blonde: The Original Elle Woods
In 1993, Amanda Brown attended Stanford Law University. Not completely satisfied with her overall experience - she started to pen letters and notes to friends about it. The compilation of these notes, letters and ideas ended up forming the first version of 'Legally Blonde', which was unable to get published through conventional means. However, Hollywood agents picked it up and turned it into the 2001 Reese Witherspoon serving that most of us are familiar with.
In this video, I take a dive into the origin of Elle Woods, who isn't quite like her contemporaries in a case of Woods vs Woods. What did you think of the original Elle? Were you surprised to see how much she'd changed?

The Other "Hadestown": Jasper in Deadland
Просмотров 9 тыс.5 месяцев назад
The tale of Orpheus and Eurydice has been told many a time, with the currently most popular iteration of it arguably being the musical Hadestown. While this adaptation came to New York in 2016 and eventually Broadway in 2019, another retelling had its professional debut only 2 years prior. This was Jasper in Deadland, Ryan Scott Oliver's version of the story, with a modern yet mythological take...

Spring Awakening: A Deep Dive

Spring Awakening is a unique musical. Although other rock musicals with strong messages had been created before it, its focus on teenagers and their growing pains brought it to the forefront in the mid-00's. Credited for bring Jonathan Groff, Lea Michele and several others to the mainstream, Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater's musical has since been revived multiple times and is still quite relevan...
A Dive into the Titanic Musical

1997 was certainly a good year for Titanic fans. Neither screen nor stage could keep away from discussing the Titanic's tragic maiden voyage. Most know the James Cameron screen adaptation well - it made box office history, which still holds water today. But, did you know there was a Broadway production that opened on the same year? Maury Yeston (Nine) and Peter Stone (1776) collaborated to tack...
Five Cancelled Movie Musicals
Просмотров 7 тыс.Год назад
The 21th century has witnessed a resurgence of the movie musical genre. From heavy-hitters like West Side Story and Chicago to critical failures like Dear Evan Hansen, many successful musicals have made it to the big screen. But, for every one that does, we can find at least one other show that did not. Whether they were eventually adapted under different direction or never made it past the wri...
Evita: Between Reality and Spectacle
Просмотров 66 тыс.Год назад
Don't cry for me, Argentina... The truth is... a little blurry? Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's musical adaptation of Eva Perón's life story brought her to the Broadway stage and to the silver screen, standing as one of the best roles of Elaine Paige, Patti Lupone and Madonna. But, angling her story as a morality play about social resentment and vanity, do Andy and Tim stay true to the reali...

So, its major woke material. It seems they have praised the music and sensualized this to tantalize audiences, instead of praising the God of miracles at the heart of this biblical event.

The song "When You Believe" has some of the most humanistic lyrics of any so called faith film. There can be miracles when YOU believe, somehow YOU will. Umm, "you" don't - God does. You can do nothing - as he does everything. Your commentary here is excellent. There are way too many "sexy" dance moves and costumes as they portay slaves. Even more humanistic, possibly not fit for children.

Diana Ross slept her way to the top. That's all there is to it. And you know what's particularly delicious? Her own children outshine her. Tracee is a way better actress than her mother and Evan Ross is 4 times the singer his mother has ever been. She's sealed her place as not only the Queen of Motown but one of the "greatest" singers on planet Earth. If Evan was as power hungry as she is he could easily steal her throne.

Eva Peron was a lot like Meghan Markle. Both used men to climb the social ladder, started out using men paying them for sex and married weak but much loved men. Eva started out as prostitute turned actress. Meghan started out as a yacht girl turned actress. They married into a higher social class and their goal was for money and power. Eva was drugged or manipulated so she lost power. Meghan drugged and manipulated Harry so she could take power using his star dust. Eva worked with Peron to harm those they perceived as enemies and Meghan worked with Harry to harm their perceived enemies. They their families behind when they were no longer useful and to silence them because free press and social media would expose them. Both women has narcissistic traits and used them mercilessly for their goals. We know how it ended for Eva and Peron who was her useful idiot. Maybe there will be a musical about Meghan Markle one day.

I’ve been thinking about these two musicals as of current USA & European politics. Primarily with the genocide in Gaza and Donald Trump demanding to be king. Even with all the damning evidence in front of our faces, so many people are still denying the real threats that are on our doorstep. Many people think that they won’t be affected by these politics that are simply a choice of the lesser evil and that “politics don’t affect me anyways.” Unfortunately history does in fact repeat itself. You’d think it wouldn’t based on all the knowledge we have, but unfortunately people on power just want to keep gaining power and using it to oppress others.

16:05, I believe this was an attempt to callback to the original source material (ie the old testament). In the bible, Moses gets his name from Pharaoh's daughter but Miriam is there the entire time to help care for him as a baby. With that being said, as a diehard fan of the movie, i listened to the soundtrack of the stage show and immediately turned it back off. It sucks. I mean it really sucks.

I thought the boutique scene showed a real passive aggressive side of Elle. Sure , the girl is sneaky, but she's just doing what stores do. Buyer beware and all. But for Elle to trick her with a leading question, to expose her lack of expertise, instead of just saying no. To show off to her fiends Is kinda mean girl. I worked in suits in Nordstrom SF and I heard many tales of women abusing shopgirls to impress their friends.
